A US-based battery pack designer has set up its UK headquarters in Coventry. Evida has moved into the Coventry University Technology Park after securing a $250m (£156m) automobile deal.

The company said it would grow its Coventry-based team by 20 next year after securing an exclusive contract to supply the Franco-German electric vehicle maker, Mia Electric, with battery packs for its three new EV models.

Evida also operates design and production facilities in Shenzhen, China, and offices in Jerusalem, Israel.

The Coventry office will house Evida’s engineering and development, sales and marketing, and administrative functions.

It will also become the principal office of Evida’s senior management, including the new chief operating officer Trevor Power, former founding director of Modec.

He will work alongside Asher Bennett, Evida’s chief executive officer and co-founder, who recently secured significant venture capital backing for the company.
