Funding for high growth probe

Share | |

Aston Business School has won funding to carry out research into high growth businesses. The funding has come from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA).

The business school said it plans to investigate why such companies are more resilient than non-high growth businesses and have markedly lower insolvency rates.

Aston said its research shows seven per cent of UK businesses were classed as 'high growth' in the 2007 to 10 period yet they are responsible for creating over half of all new jobs.

It is also to use the £49,000 cash injection to investigate why such companies are more likely to increase sales and employment.

Lead researcher Professor Hart said: "I am grateful to NESTA for giving Aston Business School the opportunity to expand on our previous research into high-growth firms. We need to understand precisely their contribution to the UK economy."
