None of the East Midlands businesses which attended a Budget Briefing thought that this year’s Budget was ‘bad’ for business. Sixty-seven per cent of attendees at Grant Thorton’s event said the proposals outlined by the Chancellor were ‘good’ for their company.

The remaining 33 per cent declared themselves as ‘neutral’ or ‘unsure’.

More than 80 people – including professionals from law firms, banks and private businesses – heard from Grant Thornton’s experts on tax and finance at the event at Leicester’s Walkers Stadium

Just 4 per cent said that they expected their induvuidual business situation to worsen over the next 12 months. The majority (58 per cent) said they anticipated an improvement in their business.

Grant Thornton partner Chris Frostwick, who chaired the event, said: “The Chancellor’s ‘march of the makers’ certainly fits well with the region’s strengths and potential.”

The firm’s tax partner, Ian Johnson, said: “It appears to have been a skillful Budget which, in terms of incentives for entrepreneurs and charities, revealed an interesting direction of travel being taken by the Chancellor.”
