The Ricoh Arena in Coventry has been selected as the venue for the "largest poker tournament in Europe". G Casino, based in the arena, plans to break a European record by hosting a five-day poker tournament in August.

Up to 1,500 players will take part in the 'Goliath tournament'.

G Casino and event organiser D4 events have guaranteed the prize fund at £100,000, meaning the winner will walk away with more than £25,000.

The event will take place from midday until 10pm for five days.

Daniel Gidney, chief executive of the Ricoh Arena, said the venue was ideally suited to host a poker event of this size.

“We are excited to be part of this opportunity of setting a European record for the largest poker tournament ever to be held. This is a great chance for beginners as well as more experienced poker players to test themselves against a huge number of competitors as well as walk away with a five-figure prize.

“G Casino is ideally suited to host a poker event of this unprecedented size since this casino is the largest in the UK, has a legion of experienced dealers and has tournament know-how and I am sure it will be a memorable five days.”
