Rolls-Royce secures £174m contract
Derby manufacturing giant Rolls-Royce has won a $200m (£173.8m) order from Turkish Airlines for its Trent 700 engines. The engines will be used to power three Airbus A330 freighter aircraft.
The contract includes a TotalCare long-term service agreement.
The aircraft, which will be delivered between 2012 and 2014, are in addition to two Rolls-Royce powered A330 freighters previously ordered, one of which is now in service.
Turkish Airlines now has a total of 16 Rolls-Royce powered A330 passenger and freighter aircraft in service or on order.
Nick Devall, Rolls-Royce’s chief commercial officer of civil aerospace, said: “The Trent 700 is the only engine specifically designed for the A330 and delivers significant payload benefits in operation. Following our flawless entry into service last year, I look forward to our relationship continuing to develop.”
More than 1,300 Trent 700s are now in service or on firm order.
