Mark Group completes university eco-project

Energy saving specialist Mark Group has completed an installation of 362 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at the University of Nottingham. The £400,000 project aims to cut energy bills in several halls of residence by about 10 per cent, said the Leicester-based business.

Alongside the solar PV panels, the company fitted 27 solar thermal panels across three halls of residence.

The investment in the solar systems is part of a wider energy saving programme which has been undertaken by the university.

Mark Group’s design manager, Chris Roberts, said: “This is one of the most prestigious solar PV systems we have installed to date and we are pleased that a holistic approach has been taken towards achieving energy efficiency.

"By considering insulation before investing in renewable technology the University has used absolutely the right methodology, and with a little education for the students, they will see maximum return from their investment.”

The installation by Mark Group will qualify for payments under the government's Feed in Tariff scheme, whereby investors in renewable technology are rewarded for the power they generate.
