Hotel and casino scheme gets go-ahead
Plans for a casino, three-star hotel and 300-apartment scheme in Birmingham city centre have been approved by city councillors. The proposals are set to create more than 220 jobs and generate annual revenues of nearly £9m for the city.
The mixed-use scheme design got the go-ahead from councillors subject to a section 106 legal agreement, concerning access and transport.
Alongside the casino and residential development, plans include a car showroom and office space.
The 441,761 sq ft development spans 49-51 Holloway Head, Blucher Street, Gough Street and Ellis Street in the city centre.
Proposals also include a provision for 500 car parking spaces. Of these, 303 would be available for residential use, while 140 would be used by the office development.
Developer Panther Securities, which submitted the planning application, estimated that 221 jobs would be created in Birmingham as a result of the proposal. The company said about £8.8m would be generated every year from the development.
