The King's Mate
The search is on for the Midlands business man or woman with the most famous school friends.
It all started when Insider met up with Service Birmingham marketing and communications chief Kevin Meagher who told us he was at school in Bolton with comedian Peter Kay.
But now Ross Bendall, a partner at property consultancy Vail Williams’ Birmingham office reckons he can trump Meagher’s claim.
He was at school with both actor Colin Firth - he of The King’s Speech and Oscar-winning fame - and also comedian Jack Dee (indeed Ross’s name can be seen captured in a picture of the cast list for Taming of the Shrew in Dee’s autobiography).
Bendall says of his school days spent in Winchester: “Colin was in the year above me with my brother so we didn’t really see much of one another. But Jack was in the same year and is much the same now as he was then - grumpy and deadpan with cutting wit when required!”
It’s going to take some beating but is there anyone out there with even more famous schoolmates? If there is they should email Andy Coyne.
