E.On kicks off solar panel project

Energy giant E.On has been selected by Nottingham City Council to install solar panels in 600 homes in Aspley.

The installation of the solar panels will help reduce energy bills for people in some of the most deprived areas of the city, said the council.

Work on the scheme, which is set to be one of the UK’s "largest domestic photovoltaic" (PV) projects, is planned to start later this month and will be completed by July.

The 2kW solar panels will produce an estimated total of 4,000kWh of electricity per year.

Councillor Graham Chapman, deputy leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “Nottingham already provides 11 per cent of its own energy and schemes like this will undoubtedly increase our reputation for being the Energy City. But more importantly it will also help reduce fuel poverty and offer real jobs and training opportunities for local people in the growing green economy.”
