£14m Lichfield scheme green lighted
The first phase of a new £14m scheme to provide more car parking, homes, a hotel and restaurant in Lichfield has received the go-ahead from the district council’s planning committee.
S Harrison Developments, based in York, won approval after revising its initial submission for a new car park and sheltered accommodation at Friary Outer.
The company said it is now in advanced negotiations with a major national hotel chain to build a new 65 bed hotel on the Friary Outer site.
Proposals for the hotel to complete the scheme will go before the committee on 4 April.
The two-acre site will feature a new car park, increasing parking from 230 spaces to about 400.
Sixty affordable homes will also be constructed at Friary Outer. Of these, 54 have been designed specifically as sheltered apartments for older people.
The scheme has been designed by the Leeds office of architect Chetwoods.
