National contractor Shepherd Construction has appointed Gary Owen as business development manager in the East Midlands. Owen will have responsibility for carrying out the company’s construction strategy across the region.

Owen was previously business development manager for Laing O’ Rourke in the Midlands. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the construction sector.

At Laing O’Rourke, Owen was responsible for bringing forward projects in the Midlands including the £30m National Ice Centre for Nottingham City Council and the £20m National College of School Leadership for the University of Nottingham.

Colin Sargeant, managing director for Shepherd Construction’s East Division, said: “Gary’s appointment will strengthen our working winning team at a time when we are looking to capitalise upon our previous successes across the East Midlands.

“We are currently on-site with a number of projects in the region including building a new design centre for Loughborough University and recently we handed over the £31m flagship regeneration scheme, Derby Riverlights.”
