Sales up at Marston's

Marston’s pub company, based in Wolverhampton, has said like-for-like sales over the past 23 weeks were up 2.4 per cent on the comparable period last year. The company also said it was on target to open 20 new pubs by September this year.

In a trading update for the 23-week period to 12 March 2011, Marston’s said that profitability was in line with expectations.

In Marston's inns and taverns division, like-for-like food sales growth of 4.7 per cent and like-for-like wet sales growth of 1.5 per cent.

Like-for-like sales in the past seven weeks were 3.0 per cent ahead of last year.

Marston’s said it was on target to open 20 new pubs in the year to 30 September 2011.

In a statement, the company said: “We have completed five new pub-restaurants to date with a further three due to complete in the next eight weeks. The remaining 12 pubs are on target to open by the end of the financial year. The performance of our new pub openings continues to be ahead of our original targets, reinforcing the merit of the new-build strategy.”
