Toyota cuts overtime at Burnaston

Share | |

Toyota’s Burnaston plant has cut overtime in response to the mounting crisis following the earthquake and tsnuami in Japan last week. It was reported this morning that the motor manufacturer was axing the two hours a day of overtime for workers after fears that it may run out of parts.

Toyota said the decision would be reviewed on a day-to-day basis

The Burnaston plant is still running, stressed Toyota, which said it would take a six-week drought of parts from Japan before it had to close. Toyota’s Japanese factories are closed until tomorrow.

Toyota has scaled back production by about 1,200 cars over the next two months in response to the Japanese crisis. Twenty-three per cent of the parts used at the Burnaston plant come from Japan.

A spokesperson for Toyota said: "These are precautionary measures until we find out about the effect of supplies coming from Japan."
