Refusal suggested for care home plans
A 47-bed care home plan on the site of a pub should be refused, Birmingham City Council planning officers have urged councillors.
The application, from ideal Care Homes, seeks to demolish the existing Bale of Hay pub and in its place, build a three-storey home for elderly residents.
It is proposed the care home would cater for residents with a range of needs, from virtually independent, low-care residents, through to high-care dementia residents.
However, according to the council report, the planning proposals do not include a front entrance to the site.
The report concludes that the plans have “a fundamental urban design flaw” in that an active frontage and particularly an entrance has not been provided to the front.
It stated: “This creates a lack of definition between the public and private areas of the site and fails to integrate the building within the local area. The applicants have been given opportunity to overcome this matter, but do not agree a change is necessary.”
Councillors will decide whether to approve or refuse planning permission on Thursday (17 March).
