The Palletways Group, based in Lichfield, is set to invest €5m (£4.3m) in developing and rolling out a network in Germany. The company, which provides palletised freight services, said the move was part of its strategy to open up new business opportunities in Eastern Europe.

The new site will include a 75,347 sq ft hub in Homberg, Germany. Work will being at the location in May this year, and the hub will form part of Palletways’ existing networks in Europe. The company currently serves the Benelux countries, Italy, Portugal, Spain, UK and Ireland.

The hub will have capacity for up to 6,000 pallets per night and the network will start with about 35 depots across Germany. The hub, together with the commercial offices in Dusseldorf, will employ 30 people.

James Wilson, chief executive of Palletways Group, said: “Our significant investment in creating a domestic network in Germany will enable us to fully exploit business opportunities in Europe’s largest economy. Our strategically placed hub in central Germany, will also enable us to provide future express delivery services in Eastern Europe, opening up new marketplaces and additional revenues for the group.”
