Bishop heads to Nottingham as director for development
Nottingham City Council has ended its long search for a permanent director for development by poaching David Bishop from Bristol City Council. The move puts to an end the uncertainty surrounding the role which has been filled for the last 18 months on an interim basis by Jennifer Dearing. Speaking to Insider at the MIPIM conference in Cannes, Tim Garratt of Innes England said that the appointment "gives some certainty to the market and will add clarity to dealings with the council".
Bishop will leave his position as strategic director for city development at Bristol City Council to join the corporate leadership team in Nottingham at the end of May. The council has stressed that his appointment is permanent.
Jane Todd, chief executive at Nottingham City Council, said: "I am delighted to welcome David to Nottingham City Council to join our strong leadership team. David brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and he joins the council at an exciting time with a number of major projects coming to fruition such as the planned extensions to the tram network and the redevelopment of the station. Our sincere gratitude goes to Jennifer Dearing for covering this role over the last 18 months."
Speaking to Insider from the MIPIM commercial property show in Cannes, Tim Garratt, director at Innes England said: "I'm delighted to hear the news of a permanent appointment for Nottingham. This is a key post which is even more important as we hopefully move out of recession. As I walk around MIPIM this year I realise the importance of a 'can do' approach to planning - we look forward to working with David."
Bishop, who was previously a strategic director in South Wales for five years, has worked in Bristol since March 2005 and has been involved in projects such as Greater Bristol Bus Network and Cycling City, the South Bristol Link and Rapid Transit, and Hengrove Phase One.
Councillor Hassan Ahmed, chair of the appointments and conditions of service committee appointing David, said: "On behalf of the political leadership of the authority we look forward to helping David drive forward our shared vision for the development and regeneration of the city."
