Derby set to unveil £100m Castleward developer
Derby City Council chief executive Adam Wilkinson will this morning reveal which developer has won the contract for the Castleward Urban Village scheme in the city. Wilkinson will use a special presentation at MIPIM to unveil the successful bidder for the £100m scheme, along with those projects which have secured funding from Derby City Council’s £10m regeneration fund.
It is thought work will start on the four-acre 'Phase 1' of the Urban Village scheme, which centres on a pedestrian-friendly boulevard from Derby railway station to the city centre, in spring 2012 and the overall Castleward Urban Village scheme, which will include about 800 new homes on brownfield land, is expected to take more than ten years to complete.
The city council said the aim of the regeneration fund is to kick-start the next phase of commercial office development in the city centre now Pride Park is full.
Nineteen applications have been made by developers and John Forkin, managing director of Marketing Derby said the winning projects could lead to a mini development boom in Derby in 2011/12.
Forkin told Insider: “It’s really important that we build on the £1bn invested in Derby over the past five years and start what we have finished. For us MIPIM remains an important part on our investment calendar, complementing our activity in Derby, Birmingham and London.”
The Derby team is being sponsored by Faithful and Gould, Innes England, Geldards and FHP.
Smith of Derby managing director and new Marketing Derby chairman Bob Betts will be hosting an invitation-only Derby dinner at MIPIM, which will look at how the city can continue raise its profile.
