Boot heads up Board Evaluation

A new Birmingham-based company has been set up by a group of business leaders and consultants to offer advice to company boards. Board Evaluation’s co-founders include former KPMG partner and Institute of Directors chairman Richard Boot and Gary Cowdrill, former finance director of West Bromwich Building Society.

The names behind the new organisation said the company was set up to offer advice to board members as the performance of the board has become “a key focus not only for regulators and external stakeholders, but also for all forward-looking businesses”.

Former KPMG Partner Boot is the Board Evaluation’s chairman. He is working alongside co-directors Jean Pousson, an experienced specialist in board performance evaluation and strategy review, and Gary Cowdrill, former finance director of West Bromwich Building Society.

Cowdrill said: “There is an ever increasing spotlight on the way Boards operate and ways in which they can be more effective. Whilst we are happy to advise on compliance issues, we are perhaps even more focused on improving the way boards operate so that there is a positive impact on the performance of the company itself. There is a proven link between effective boards and company performance.”

Board Evaluation will host a series of launch events in central Birmingham in mid-March.
