Goodyear Works site gets go-ahead

Planning approval has been given for the construction of 314 homes on the 88-acre Goodyear Works site. Wolverhampton City Council gave the green light to the first stage of the project, which is located off Stafford Road.

The residential planning application is the first to be made as part of a joint venture between St Modwen and Persimmon which was established in August 2010.

Two thousand homes - with an end value of £300m - will be built on seven St Modwen-owned sites across the UK over the next five years through the joint agreement.

These projects include the £150m redevelopment of the Goodyear Work, the creation of a £1bn sustainable community at Glan Llyn in Newport, South Wales and a £1.2bn scheme at Coed Darcy in Neath.

Steve Burke, construction director for St Modwen, said: “We are delighted to have been given the green light to drive forward this exciting new residential development.

"Goodyear is extremely significant site within the city of Wolverhampton and one where we aim to not only deliver a thriving new community but also, through the development process, create hundreds of new jobs for local people.”
