Van Leeuwen Wheeler swoops for Aberdeen business

A Brierley Hill tube and pipe distributor has acquired the assets of Mardale Pipes, an Aberdeen-based pipe supplier which had fallen into administration. Van Leeuwen Wheeler was advised on the deal by Kingswinford law firm Higgs & Sons.

Van Leeuwen Wheeler, which has UK bases in Brierley Hill, Dundee and Middlesbrough, purchased Mardale Pipes’ assets for an undisclosed sum.

Mardale Pipes supplies duplex and super duplex stainless steel to the oil and gas industry.

The acquisition means Van Leeuwen Wheeler will gain a 9,000sq ft warehouse in Dyce, Aberdeen, together with stocks and machinery. The company is relocating its Dundee sales team to the new Aberdeen location and said it will be retaining members of the Mardale team.

Van Leeuwen’s managing director Jeff Blakey said: "We have long recognised the importance of having an active presence in Aberdeen and this development gives us a stockholding capability at the heart of the oil and gas industry.

"With the acquisition of this strategic location, we are uniquely positioned to offer a large portfolio of materials backed up by the necessary technical expertise."

Van Leeuwen Wheeler is part of the Netherlands-based Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group.

Higgs & Sons has offices in Brierley Hill and Kingswinford.
