Sleaford Masterplan unveiled

Plans to transform a Lincolnshire market town have been unveiled by North Kesteven District Council. The Sleaford Masterplan is a 25-year project which councillors say will encourage investment and improve the town centre.

Among the proposals is a complete overhaul for Sleaford’s Market Place and Money's Yard, which could potentially be transformed into hubs of leisure and retail.

Other ideas put forward include the construction of 4,000 new homes over the next 25 years, new development land for employment and improved retail provisions.

The possible relocation of schools to relieve congestion has also been proposed.

The council has worked for the past nine months with consultants Gillespies and its partners to create the masterplan.

Ben Ellis, president of the Sleaford and District Chamber of Commerce, said: “As a result of sustained population growth, Sleaford faces a number of challenges but also a number of opportunities.

“The masterplan is key to the economic growth of the town in years to come. It contains some exciting proposals for the future development of the town and we will continue to work closely with North Kesteven District Council to ensure that these proposals come to fruition.”

The Sleaford Masterplan has been jointly funded by Lincolnshire County Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and North Kesteven District Council.

The plans will be considered at a full council meeting on 24 February.
