Wakemans wins Travelodge contract
Birmingham-based construction company Wakemans has been appointed to work on a £5.5m hotel development in Twickenham. The company will construct a 111-room, ten storey Travelodge hotel.
Wakemans was involved in the project from its inception as part of Travelodge’s pre-construction team. Now it is acting as employer’s agent and cost consultant on the construction of the hotel.
The new Travelodge will be located on London Road on the car park of an existing office block and will incorporate a Bar Café, Travelodge’s own brand restaurant.
Wakemans’ director Adrian Aston said: “In view of the hotel’s location, noise and general acoustics will be a vital consideration in terms of building design. Also the location of the building, being opposite the main Network Rail station at Twickenham will present some challenges that will need to be overcome during the construction phase.”
The hotel design will optimise natural light, and minimise energy and water consumption to give it a Very Good BREEAM rating.
Wakemans is currently working on two other Travelodge projects in London and Cheshire.
