The £43.5m development of South Leicestershire College has been completed. The redesign, which was partly funded by the Learning Skills Council, is one of the final projects to be delivered under the government’s Colleges of the Future scheme.

As part of the new design, seven existing buildings at the college in South Wigston have been replaced.

MDA Consulting’s Leicestershire office provided quantity surveying services to the development.

Facilities including a restaurant, gym, multi faith centre and a therapies suite have all been installed under the refurbishment.

Rob McGuinn, a director of MDA Consulting, said: “The new college campus offers the local area one of the leading further education environments in the country and provides a suitable, state of the art learning centre which was not possible at the existing campus.”

The site also holds a rainwater harvesting tank for grey water use in flushing toilets and a combination of internal lights that are reactive to sunlight and solar tubes. The new lighting system allows more natural light into the building, and automatically switches off when not needed.
