HCA to boost £12m care home scheme

Share | |

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has confirmed a £2m cash injection into a new community scheme in Derby. The 98-apartment project is expected to get approval at the next full cabinet meeting of Derby Council.

A mix of 37 one-bed and 61 two-bed apartments would be created through the £12m Mackworth scheme. The care community would provide for elderly residents and would include on-site care staff as well as communal facilities.

Educational areas, a café, a beauty and health suite and gym are also included in the planning proposals.

The project is a joint venture between Derby City Council, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and development partner Sanctuary Housing.

The council will donate the land at Hanwell Way to Sanctuary on a long-term lease as well as providing £2.2m towards the build cost.

Work will start on-site before the end of the month and will see the former Arthur Neale residential home demolished. The scheme is expected to take 18 months to complete.
