MCA unveils Brazilian beach resort masterplan
A disused cocoa plant in Brazil could be turned into a multimillion pound holiday resort after Nottingham-based Marchini Curran Associates (MCA) unveiled a masterplan for a new beach destination in the country. MCA director Des Curran told Insider that the location was “prime for development”.
The new resort is located in Bahia, on Brazil's Discovery Coast between the provincial capital of Salvador, Brazil's fourth largest city, and the well established resort of Porto Seguro.
MCA has designed the area to include a beach resort comprising 344 individual villas and a 50 suite luxury hotel. There will also be a commercial district and a beach club looking out onto the Atlantic Ocean. The stretch of coast looks set to become an upmarket tourist destination with two exclusive hotels already in the area, and there are also plans for two golf courses and two 5-star resorts along the 10km stretch of beach leading to the town of Belmonte.
There will also be a commercial district and a beach club on the 53 hectare plantation in Bahia.
Curran told Insider: “We’re working closely with a British developer who is looking to raise some finance to build the resort. What’s we’ve done is try and aid that by creating a vision of what the scheme will look like. We hope he can now go on and generate the cash he needs to bring the development to fruition.
“This exciting project builds on the work we have been doing in the UK hotel sector. The scale of the site and the ambition of the client gives us a lot of scope to create a truly remarkable destination.”
Curran says that the Cocoa Beach Resort Belmonte masterplan is the first of its size the company has worked on, but that he hopes it leads to more.
“Working on projects like this is always fun, and it certainly gets people talking,” added Curran. “Brazil is one of the fastest developing nations; there’s lots happening and the time could be right for us to work over there a lot more.”
Curran said site clearance and enabling work has started and the first villas could be under construction within the year.
