Molson Coors buys Sharp's Brewery
Molson Coors, which has its UK base in Burton-on-Trent, has bought Cornwall-based Sharp's Brewery in a deal believed to be worth £20m. The purchase includes the Doom Bar cask beer brand.
Sharp's Brewery is a brewer of cask conditioned beer. It is based at Rock in Cornwall and Molson will continue to brew beer at this location.
Mark Hunter, chief executive of Molson Coors (UK & Ireland), said: “We have a wealth of experience with this type of venture and an excellent track record of building brands across all markets. We respect and want to preserve the unique culture of Sharp's Brewery and the special appeal of their brands to beer drinkers."
Nick Baker, managing director of Sharp's Brewery, said: "We are delighted to have done this deal. It was, and is, important to us to know how Molson Coors will manage Sharp's and their plan to invest in developing the brewery at Rock and the Doom Bar brand is spot on.”
Research reveals there are more than 8.6 million cask beer drinkers in the UK and cask beer represents 15.2 per cent of on-trade beer. Molson Coors brews, markets and sells brands such as Coors Light, Molson Canadian, Carling, Blue Moon, and Keystone Light across North America, Europe and Asia.
