Work starts on £3.8m church renovation

Lichfield-based restoration specialist Linford-Bridgeman has started work on the £3.8m renovation of a church in Erdington. The St Barnabus church will undergo a complete repair and receive a new extension after it was nearly destroyed in a fire in 2007.

Through the project, the 150-year old church will gain a new glazed side extension, creating an open entrance and community space which will face Erdington High Street.

Linford-Bridgeman will be the main restoration contractors with BHB Architects and Greenwoods appointed as project managers.

Stuart Carter, managing director of Linford-Bridgeman, said: “This is an exciting renovation project which will see a modern structure fused with the historic building. The glazed entrance and sweeping steel roof will create a stunning new church for the local community.”

The project is scheduled to be completed in summer 2012.
