Public services provider Amey has acquired Transportation Planning (International). Amey, which has major operations in Birmingham, has already made two major buyouts in the past year.

TPI has an office in Birmingham, as well as sites in Dublin, Cork, Edinburgh, Leeds and London.

Amey said that it acquired the transportation planning and traffic engineering consultancy to “optimise delivery of its strategic transport schemes across the UK”.

All of TPI's employees will join Amey’s consultancy business, taking staff in the division to 2,300 – a ten-fold increase in six years.

Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, said: “With transport budgets under increasing pressure, it has never been more important for Amey to deliver value throughout the life cycle of our projects.

“Transport schemes are central to improving the prosperity of local economies. By acquiring this highly respected consultancy, Amey is investing in some of the best professionals from within industry who will deliver the best long-term solutions for our customers.”

The sum of the acquisition was not disclosed.

Amey’s buyout of TPI follows its acquisition of the national rail consultancy of WYG in June 2010. In the same year, Amey and its joint venture partner Cespa (AmeyCespa), acquired the waste management business Donarbon.
