Former Royal Mail centre sold
The former Mail Centre in Bishop Street, Coventry, has been sold to Barberry Developments for an undisclosed sum.
Barberry Developments has confirmed the site will be a mixed use scheme with potential to accommodate a supermarket superstore.
The current property comprises 200,000 sq ft multi-storey sorting premises with ground floor loading and adjacent parking which combined totals approximately 2.04 acres.
Henry Bellfield, director at Barberry Developments, said: “We were impressed by the pro-active nature of Coventry City Council and for a number of years have been seeking a major development opportunity within the city. When the Mail Centre came to the market we recognised the quality of the location and the huge potential of the site.
“Working with Coventry City Council we are drawing up plans for a comprehensive redevelopment of this part of the city centre, as such we have subsequently acquired adjoining sites.”
The sale was carried out by Jones Lang LaSalle who acted on behalf of the Royal Mail. Jonathan Fear, of Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “We generated credible interest for this unique site which offered a significant development/refurbishment opportunity.”
