Changan drives expansion with job creation
One of China’s biggest car makers is doubling the size of its research and development operation at the No 1 Nottingham Science Park. Changan has taken an additional 5,000 sq ft at the site, and has revealed plans to create up to 175 new jobs over the next few years.
Changan, which first moved into the sustainable building in July, plans to invest £20m in the operation over the coming five years.
The Nottingham base, which employs 25 people, is the car maker’s first UK research and development centre.
By 2013, Changan said it aims to have increased its workforce to 200. Many of the new recruits are expected to be engineering graduates from Nottingham’s universities, with whom the company is closely linked.
Changan uses its suite at No 1 Nottingham Science Park to research and develop automotive engine and transmission systems for its products, including hybrid and electric cars.
