£5.3m Holiday Inn scheme takes off
Work has started on a £5.3m Birmingham hotel development after Tavern Investments secured funding for the project from NatWest. Anglo Holt Construction, based in West Bromwich, will undertake the building work on the Coventry Road site.
The hotel will also comprise a 68 space car park and will create 20 jobs.
Tavern Investments purchased Burgess House on Coventry Road two years ago. Planning permission was recently granted to convert the existing building into a 83-bedroom hotel.
Tavern secured an undisclosed finance package through NatWest Commercial Banking to complete the development, which will become a Holiday Inn Express.
The hotel is due to open in July 2011.
A spokesman for Tavern Investments, said: ‘The feedback we have received indicates that there is a need for more hotel accommodation in the city, especially near to the NEC and the airport. With this in mind we knew Burgess House would be an ideal hotel given its location, local amenities and the all important car parking.
"It has been a long journey since acquiring the premises, but now, with Holiday Inn Express, Anglo Holt and NatWest on board things are really starting to take shape.”
