Future of construction to be debated in Solihull
The future of the construction industry in the West Midlands will be the theme at today’s 'Great Regional Debate' in Solihull. A panel of industry experts, including the regional director of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), will discuss the sector’s future against the backdrop of government spending cuts.
Chaired by Professor Kathryn Moore of the Landscape Institute, the panel discussion will seek to outline how the professions involved in the industry can expect to fare in the years ahead.
On the panel will be Tom Foulkes, director general of ICE; Anthony Clerici, regional chairman of RIBA; Martin Perks, regional chairman of RICS; and Paul Spooner, West Midlands director of the Homes and Communities Agency.
Steve Feeley, ICE West Midlands director, said: “The Great Regional Debate takes place every year and, I think it is fair to say, this year’s comes at an absolutely crucial time for the construction industry.
“The last eight months has seen the beginning of what are potentially the most fundamental changes to the way in which the country is governed and services delivered.
“Exactly how this will impact on the construction industry in the West Midlands is a matter of some deliberation and on Tuesday we have a panel of experts who will be able to provide a valuable insight into how they see things developing."
Organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Landscape Institute (LI), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), the event takes place at the ARUP campus in Solihull.
