Approval granted for 3,000 home scheme
Planning permission has been secured for the construction of 3,000 homes in Ashton Green, Leicester. Cheshire-based architect Taylor Young has been given approval for the scheme, which will also comprise new schools and office space.
Community spaces and health facilities will also be created through the plans.
The development is described by Leicester City Council as a “sustainable urban extension”. Taylor Young and Leicester City Council produced the plans for the scheme over a two-year period.
Councillor Abdul Osman, Leicester City Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The approval of the scheme paves the way for the development of much needed family and affordable homes in the city and also the creation of new job opportunities.”
Taylor Young said that it expected developer procurement to commence in 2011, with construction to start on site forecast for 2013.
