Chamber to host Eastern Europe trade visit
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce is offering businesses the chance to explore trading opportunities on a visit to both Hungary and Romania. The chamber described the countries as “two of the EU’s fastest emerging markets”.
The four-day market visit, between 15-19 March 2011, will start in the Hungarian city of Szeged before moving on to Timisoara in Romania. It will be led by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), which the chamber delivers in the East Midlands.
The chamber said that the trip will give the region’s businesses the opportunity to meet with their European counterparts and develop trading partnerships. Delegates will get the chance to attend the Pro Domo expo in Timisoara, which is a trade exhibition for the construction, interior design and environmental sectors.
Hungary’s private sector accounts for more than 80 per cent of GDP and its main industries include mining, metallurgy, construction materials, processed foods, textiles, pharmaceuticals and motor vehicles.
Timisoara is one of Romania’s largest cities, located within 500km of 10 European capitals. It boasts a highly-developed technology sector and six universities.
David Hood, the chamber’s head of international trade, said: “Hungary and Romania are two of the EU’s major emerging markets and are extremely important countries to the UK in terms of trading, so this is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to visit these regions and discover what opportunities are on offer.
“The chamber has a significant number of members which already do business in Hungary and Romania and the industrial profiles of both Szeged and Timisoara are very closely aligned with the business community here.
“Both cities are also within easy reach of other key European cities, making them ideal gateways to the rest of the EU and beyond, so businesses looking to trade overseas should consider developing their links with Hungary and Romania.”
