£3.7m Ricoh Arena facelift unveiled

The Ricoh Arena’s nine-month refurbishment has been completed. The £3.7m project at the Coventry site has created nine hotel bedrooms, a south entrance and an upgrade to the conferencing facilities.

The on-site hotel has now been rebranded De Vere at the Ricoh and a training suite has been introduced.

A new south entrance has also been constructed, which now links to the arena, and an additional nine hotel rooms takes the number of rooms to 80.

Under the multimillion-pound scheme, a 650-seat auditorium has been created. This will be used for conferences during the day and as a live entertainment venue in the evening.

Anthony Mundy, facilities director at the Ricoh Arena, said: “We are extremely pleased with the finished result. This is the first major facelift that has been carried out since the Ricoh opened in 2005 and we have been pleased with the feedback from visitors.

“The new south entrance in particular is a real bonus since it provides greater flexibility when taking future bookings from conference and exhibition organisers irrespective of other events taking place.”

The main contractor was Birmingham-based Ibex. Coventry-based IDP Architects and Coventry City Council’s Project Management Team were also involved in the project.
