The first 22 homes on the Walsall Waterfront development have been constructed. The £65m project, which will comprise more than 300 homes in total, is expected to create 200 jobs.

The development, by Jessup Build Develop, will also include office and retail space alongside the 322 homes.

A further 17 affordable canal-side apartments are due to be completed in February which will also be available to rent through housing association The Accord Group.

The Accord properties, which are part of the first phase of the Waterfront scheme, cost approximately £3.2m to build. More than £1.7m of this was secured via a ‘kick-start’ grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

More than 100 apartments are scheduled to be completed in March, which will be managed by Accord on behalf of Jessup.

Chris Hand, chief executive of the Accord Group, said: “Walsall Waterfront is a fantastic development in the heart of Walsall, so it’s great to see families begin to move into the scheme and create their own community.

“We are very proud to be one of just a number of partners involved in developing the scheme and contributing to the regeneration of Walsall. We look forward to the completion of the next phase, which will see homes being completed for local key workers.”
