Coventry construction scheme to create 40 jobs

Share | |

Forty construction jobs are expected to be generated with a building project to create new homes in Coventry. Seventy new homes will be constructed on the brownfield site in Windmill Road for Jephson Homes Housing Association by Cassidy Group.

Coventry City Council is also supporting the new housing project, which will be located next to Longford Park. The site had previously been empty for several years.

The new properties will be built to Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 with a mixture of family houses, disabled and general use apartments and maisonettes.

Funding was in part provided by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Work on the site is estimated to take about 16 months to complete. The developer said that the project will also provide the opportunity for trainees from Coventry’s City College to get “hands-on industry experience”.

Jephson’s development and property asset manager, Ian Woodland said: “All parties – Coventry City Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, Cassidy Group and ourselves – have worked closely and effectively together to make this opportunity a reality. It’s a great example of partnership working in action and will deliver a fantastic new living environment.’’

Ross Manford, investment and regeneration manager for the HCA Midlands, said: “We are delighted that Windmill Meadows is now on site. The scheme is a strategic project for the HCA and an important one for North East Coventry as it creates both new homes and jobs in the immediate local area as well as helping to keep the redevelopment scheme moving down the road in Wood End.

“The homes created through Windmill Meadows will help with accommodating families through the decanting process, enabling more new homes and jobs being created there too.”
