West Mids overseas trading is on the up, says solicitor
The head of the commercial department at law firm Harrison Clarke said the firm had seen “increased growth” in international trade transactions over the past month. His comments come as figures released by HM Revenue & Customs show that West Midlands exports increased by 25.5 per cent last year – the highest percentage rise in the country.
Robert Capper, partner and head of the commercial department at Harrison Clark, said the firm had seen a rise in the number of transactions between West Midlands clients and foreign businesses.
He said: “It seems clients are looking at export markets due to the difficult economic climate we are experiencing here in the UK. Therefore we have been asked to provide support in terms of drafting agreements for overseas agents/distributors, providing advice regarding joint ventures with overseas companies and protecting intellectual property outside of the UK market.
“Although trading with overseas customers provides fruitful results, it is also vital that companies consider the legal implications involved and ensure that they are adequately prepared and protected."
Following the increased number of international trade related requests, Harrison Clark has expanded its team with the appointment of Claire Gamage within the commercial team. Gamage joins Harrison Clark from Birmingham Chamber of Commerce's International Trade Team and has ten years’ experience providing advice to companies trading overseas.
