DCS Europe, the Stratford-upon-Avon-based health and beauty distributor, has revealed that sales increased 14 per cent during December. Chief executive of DCS, Denys Shortt - who is also set to chair the Coventry and Warwickshire LEP board - said the company had experienced revenue upturn in its Middle Eastern divisions, as export sales grew 37 per cent in 2010.

The distributor said that Christmas gifts sold “particularly well” through Debenhams and other retail customers.

Total sales for DCS in 2010 increased by 7 per cent which makes it the best year in the company’s history.

Annual sales for 2010 totalled £125.6m with increases in nearly all divisions of the business.

Shortt said: “We are delighted with the figures as we continue to execute our strategy for growth and we see no reason why this should not continue into 2011.” He continues “We never listen to the doom and gloom forecasters – we just focus on positivity and opportunity.”

DCS Export sales grew 37 per cent from £9m to £12.3m in 2010.

“We have seen excellent growth in Egypt, Dubai and other parts of the Middle East”, said Shortt. “Our Enliven brand is now a market leader in Iraq and we even have a branded Enliven van in Baghdad!”

Shortt is set to become chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), along with five leading businessmen on the board. These include directors of EON, Ricoh Arena, SCC and Jaguar Land Rover.

He said: “The aim of the LEP is to promote business growth in our region and DCS is a perfect example of a company growing during tough times. I can see opportunities for businesses to grow in our region but they need to develop the right strategy, always be very customer friendly and have a laser like focus on growing sales.”
