International Insignia cashes in on souvenir business
A Wolverhampton-based company which produces sweatshirts bearing the names of famous UK universities has expanded after a surge in demand. International Insignia said it had almost doubled the size of its base after an increase in demand from American tourists.
The company makes hooded tops with the names of institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh universities. It has now relocated from a 4,989 sq ft unit to one of 8,904 sq ft on the Dunstall Hill Estate in Wolverhampton.
Amar Sandhu, managing director of International Insignia, said: “We are supplying more garments, particularly hoodies, and we needed more space. We have also created two more jobs in the warehouse as part of our expansion and we now employ up to eight people on site.
“We import materials from the Far East and embroider and print onto them to complete unfinished garments. We mainly supply souvenir businesses in Scotland and England. We hold licences from Cambridge University, Oxford University and Edinburgh University to use their names on goods and we are seeing an increased demand for these, particularly from American tourists.”
The Dunstall Hill Estate is owned and managed by London and Cambridge Properties.
