Vincent Stokes wins £3.4m gym contract
A construction company based in Kettering has been appointed to carry out the refurbishment of Donyngs Recreation Centre in Redhill, Surrey. Vincent Stokes will begin the project, worth £3.4m, imminently.
Work on the site includes constructing an enlarged 100-station air conditioned gym with free weights, a “kids' gym” for 11- to 16-year-olds, a children’s play facility, an enlarged dance/fitness studio, a range of new treatment rooms and improvements to the pool area and changing rooms.
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is providing £2m and leisure operator Nuffield Health is contributing £1.4m.
The refurbishment was originally scheduled to start in August but the scope has been reworked to “provide better quality facilities and so ensure best value is delivered”.
Councillor Adam De Save, executive member for leisure and wellbeing, said: “We are committed to getting the best value from our building contracts. Any development must meet our exacting quality standards and provide guarantees, wherever possible, that ensure costs remain within budget.”
