Proposals submitted for Goodyear site

Birmingham-based developer St Modwen has submitted two planning applications for plans regarding the £150m redevelopment of the Goodyear Works in Wolverhampton. The developer has submitted plans for a neighbourhood park on the 88-acre site, and in a joint venture alongside Persimmon Homes, has lodged an application for the construction of 314 homes.

The residential planning application is the first to be made as part of the joint venture that was established in August this year. Two thousand homes - with an end value of £300m - will be built on seven St Modwen-owned sites across the UK over the next five years.

St Modwen has also lodged an application for a new 17.5-acre neighbourhood park that aims to create a community facility for local residents. The park, which will cover a large area of land at the northern end of the site, will be adopted by Wolverhampton City Council once completed.

John Dodds, Midlands regional director for St Modwen, said: “This is a significant site for Wolverhampton with major redevelopment potential and we are working to create a thriving new mixed-use community here. The submission of two major planning applications signifies a real milestone for the rebirth of this local landmark, which in turn, will create hundreds of new jobs for local people.”

Eighteen acres of the regeneration scheme are occupied by Goodyear. Outline planning permission was granted to St Modwen in 2007 to redevelop the remaining 70 acres to create a mixed-use development.
