Business Voice West Midlands (BVWM) has paid tribute to three regional leaders who have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List. James Watkins, executive director of the lobbying group, said the awards were “recognition of years of service to the regional economy”.

Former Institute of Directors’ chairman Richard Boot, who finished a second term in the post early in 2010, was awarded the OBE.

Watkins said: “Richard has been an exceptional leader of the West Midlands business community and his chairmanship of the IoD in the region, combined with the leading role he played on the Business Voice West Midlands board, has meant that vital services are being continued to be provided to SMEs to enhance our competitive base.”

Jas Bains, chief executive of the Ashram Housing Association, was awarded the MBE.

“Jas has been tireless in ensuring that poverty is tackled here in the Midlands. Also, as a leading member of the National Housing Federation, Jas played an important role in Business Voice West Midlands,” said Watkins.

Andy Parker also received the QPM for his work as deputy chief constable of Warwickshire Police.

Watkins said: “Andy played a critical role with Business Voice West Midlands in the formation of the West Midlands Business Crime Forum which is doing so much to reduce crime against businesses across the region.”
