Mediplus signs KTP with Loughborough

Medical devices company Mediplus is set to collaborate with experts at Loughborough University on the development of a new product. The joint venture will take the form of a Knowledge transfer partnership (KTP).

High Wycombe-based Mediplus is enlisting the help of academics at Loughborough’s departments of Materials and Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering on the development of a new catheter.

Chairman Bob Urie, himself a graduate of Loughborough University, said: “We are known as an innovative company and have developed several unique patented products.

“We were in the process of developing a new catheter and hit some particular technical obstacles. We realised that we needed a bit of cutting edge science to overcome them which is why we turned to Loughborough.’’

“It is great to be able to work with Loughborough University, particularly with the polymer engineering sector, which is an area that formed one element of my degree at Loughborough.’’

The government’s KTP scheme enables organisations to access the university’s expertise. A recently qualified graduate will be employed to work on the project at Mediplus, while liaising on a weekly basis with experts at the university.
