Lord Ashdown to speak at Legal Awards
Former leader of the Liberal Democrat Party Lord Paddy Ashdown will be the guest speaker at next year’s Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards. Lord Ashdown will join guests from the region’s legal sector at the International Convention Centre for the annual event.
Lord Ashdown, who has also carved out a successful career as a respected broadcaster and author, served as leader of the Lib Dems between 1988 and 1999.
He now sits in the House of Lords as a Liberal Democrat Peer.
Dean Parnell, president of Birmingham Law Society, said: “Lord Ashdown’s vast knowledge of politics and his experiences outside the political sphere makes him a fascinating and erudite speaker and we’re delighted he will be joining us for what is a significant milestone in the history of the awards.”
The 2011 Legal Awards will take place on Thursday 24 March.
There will be 11 awards presented on the night, including Trainee Solicitor of the Year, Pupil Barrister of the Year, Barrister of the Year, Legal Executive of the Year, Assistant/Associate Solicitor of the Year, Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year, International Lawyer of the Year; Partner of the Year, Law Firm of the Year (sole practitioners and law firms up to four partners), Law Firm of the Year (five-15 partners) and Law Firm of the Year (16 plus partners).
