BT hub to create 450 jobs in Sandwell

BT is set to open a new call centre in Sandwell next year, bringing 450 jobs to the region. The call centre will be based in the borough’s new business development centre which is due to open in Autumn 2011.

The deal was made as part of the ongoing £200m regeneration of Sandwell, and was brokered by Transform Sandwell, the strategic partnership between BT and Sandwell Council.

The BT hub will be co-located in the development centre with about 500 Transform Sandwell employees.

Details of the agreement were confirmed during a visit to Transform Sandwell offices by Neil Rogers, president of BT Global Services for government and health.

He said: “This new call centre will be an exciting development and is part of BT’s continuing support for the economic regeneration of Sandwell. In the coming months, we will be working with the local authority and other organisations running re-skilling programmes here, to ensure as many of the new posts as possible are filled by Sandwell people.”

Sandwell Borough Council said that details regarding job vacancies would be available in the New Year.

The business centre is being built by Birmingham-based property specialist Stoford and is part of the £75m All Saints Development.

Jon Andrews, director of Stoford said: "We are delighted that the scheme, which has involved a great deal of work by all the partners - is moving forward so well, delivering the objectives of the scheme so early.

"It’s a great success story for West Bromwich and demonstrates what can be achieved even in difficult market conditions. We were very fortunate to secure funding for the scheme, working with AWM and Lloyds Bank, and these organisations deserve credit for their innovative approach to the project."
