Work starts on £25m care village
The chief executive of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has visited Birmingham to mark the on-site work at Pannel Croft. Pat Ritchie made the visit to the new £25m extra care village at Newtown.
Birmingham City Council and Extracare Charitable Trust, which is delivering the scheme for over 55s, have received £6.4m from the HCA and £2.3m from Urban Living in funding. The scheme will comprise 180 affordable homes for older people in Birmingham.
The new village will provide a mix of rent and shared ownership homes. It is only the second of its scale and type in Birmingham and will provide 24 hour care provision and a range of leisure facilities
Facilities such as a restaurant, bar, fitness centre, worship room, IT suite, library, hair and beauty salon and coffee shop will all feature in the village.
Pannel Croft is part of the wider regeneration of Newtown which is being delivered through work between HCA and Birmingham City Council.
