Graduate scheme success highlighted
The East Midland Graduate Gateway scheme, which helps match graduates for East Midlands employers, claims claims to have successfully placed between 500 and 600 graduates in employment in its 18-year history.
The project is open to graduates and employers from Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
Senior HR manager for Nottingham firm Synseal Extrusions, Kevin Bush, said: “Graduate Gateway offered us an extended opportunity to see exactly what benefits the graduate would bring to the organisation.”
Each graduate takes part in a 26-week placement at a company, working on a specific project. When the project is complete, about 75 per cent of graduates are offered permanent jobs with the company.
Through Graduate Gateway, Greg Tabberer secured a six-month placement and then a full-time job at Synseal. He said: “The Graduate Gateway scheme opened up a whole different area for me that I wasn’t considering before. Graduate Gateway was there for me when I needed it.”
