Green light for 250 new homes in Nottingham
Planning permission for 250 new homes on a former factory site in Nottingham has been granted. The homes are set to be built on Wilkinson Street in the city after CB Richard Ellis secured permission for the site.
Outline planning consent was granted by Nottingham City Council last month for the redevelopment of the 6.7 hectare site which was originally used for the manufacture of soap and has lain dormant since the PZ Cussons factory closed its gates in May 2006.
The site will include a proportion of affordable housing and new open space for residents. The historic 27 metre existing chimney stack will be retained as a feature of the development to acknowledge the industrial heritage of the site.
Director of planning at CB Richard Ellis, Jay Everett, said: “While the resolution to grant the planning permission was passed in June 2010 it was subject to the signing of Section 106. This has now taken place and the decision notice was released with official planning permission secured on 30 November 2010.
“This has facilitated the redevelopment of a strategically located yet dormant site into a sensitively designed residential scheme for Nottingham. In addition to bringing much needed new homes to the locality, development of the site will also enable the implementation of flood protection measures which will significantly reduce the risks of flooding of land and property downstream of the site as well as the railway line adjacent to it.”
