Tesco teams up with Litton for superstore
Tesco has signed a partnership agreement with Bakewell-based Litton Properties to develop proposals for a new superstore on derelict land in Hoyland. The scheme, which is in excess of £10m, would incorporate a 20,000 sq ft store and employ up to 140 staff.
Litton said the development would also create around 100 temporary construction jobs.
Matthew Magee, corporate affairs manager at Tesco, said: “We are delighted about proposing the first Tesco eco store for Hoyland, which will offer a large range of high quality products at the great value we’re known for.
“We are looking to consult in the next couple of months where we would be very keen to hear what people think about our proposals and what they would like to see in the proposed store.”
The announcement follows Litton Properties’ successful bid for the Market Street site, which has been purchased from Barnsley Council.
Mark Rothery, Litton Properties’ development director, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with the UK’s leading supermarket retailer. Over the next few months we will be working hard with Tesco to deliver a scheme which meets the highest design standards and we look forward to presenting initial proposals to local residents in the near future.”
